The Giraffe, The Ellie, and Me

This is a piece I made for a good friend. It's based on a very emotional, moving moment in the video game "The Last of Us" made by Naughty Dog. I hadn't played the game when it came to painting this, and I wanted to, so to avoid spoilers, my friend just sent me a screen grab of this moment. I complete this work a year or two ago but only just finished the game. Wow. I can see now why that moment moved him so much, and me as well. Funny story though, I originally assumed this game, or at least this scene, was set in NYC and these were escaped zoo animals, set free from central pack zoo, I was so wrong. In the original piece the skyline included the statue of liberty, which I recently removed in this new edit. Thank heavens this is digital painting and not real water colours...
